Your guide to a happy Monstera Deliciosa
Welcome to the Monstera club! You'll see, your new roommate is super easygoing. With these simple tips, your baby will quickly become an impressive jungle queen. Let's go!
Location: Bright, but please no sunburnYour Monstera loves brightness. A spot with plenty of indirect light is ideal so it can develop its famous leaf splits. Think of a place near a window, but without direct, harsh midday sun, as that can burn its beautiful leaves. A bright north-facing window or a spot set back from a south- or west-facing window is perfect.
Watering: The golden rule – less is moreFirst things first: Monsteras hate wet feet! Let the top 3–5 cm of soil dry out well before you water again. The finger test is your best friend to check this. When in doubt, wait one more day. You must absolutely avoid waterlogging in the outer pot.
Humidity: A touch of jungleAs a tropical plant it loves higher humidity, but it also copes with normal room air. If you want to do something nice for it, it will be delighted by occasional misting with low-mineral water. That also keeps its leaves nice and dust-free.
Nutrients & the secret tip for big leavesFrom spring to autumn, during the growth phase, it will appreciate a dose of houseplant fertilizer every 4 weeks. Our secret tip: Once it gets a bit bigger, it will form aerial roots. You can then give it a climbing aid (e.g., a moss pole). If it climbs that, its leaves will become even larger over time and develop more splits!
You can do it! There are few plants as rewarding. Enjoy the process and watch how each new leaf looks a little different. That's pure magic!
